Security System Role
The role of the security system
Almost every building has a security system of some sort, so why not use it?
Not only is the security system required for the building, it is an economical way of gathering data in and around the building.
Further more, as buildings become larger and more complicated, so to does the security role branching out into access control. Access Controlled doors are a common feature these days. Pathway can use the card access data to help manage the building further because now we have a good idea who is in the building.
The Security System is one of Pathways most important partners as the Security System basically dicates what the building is doing. The security system plays two important roles in the building plus provides a number other funtions.
- First and foremost it operates as a dedicated Intruder Alarm System.
- Secondly it acts as Pathways eyes and ears.
- Thirdly it controls the buildings' security Area states.
- Access Control provides data on who arrives on site
- The Security System provides cost effective inputs and Outputs
Heres an example;
A staff member arrives at work. She swipes the tag at the reader, and the security system unsets the alarm and opens the door. Several things happen in quick succession;
- The Area Number that was disarmed is sent to Pathway.
- The Card / User info is sent to Pathway
- Pathway looks at the processes all the rooms that are associated with that area and sets them to the correct state.
- It then looks at the user number and prepares the work area for that user. This includes the lights, air con, and PC so by the time she has grabbed her coffee, the PC has started.
